February 7th we headed off to Puerto Vallarta for a week in the sun - a nice change of scenery from the cold and wet (yet still beautiful) winter we are experiencing here at home.
The trip originally started out as one just for Trey and I, but we decided we would need to take Paige, and then Andrew said he wanted to go. So it became a trip for four. John and Beverly (my in-laws, otherwise known as Papa and Mimi) were already there and anxious for us to arrive. They showed us all their favorite restaurants and all the hot spots to shop, eat and be pampered - Bev and I had a wonderful afternoon at the beauty shop and were treated to massages and facials. We walked along the malecon and took in all the sights...

Paige and I swam with the dolphins (not as glamorous as it seems - VERY cold, salty, dirty water), but it was very memorable, especially getting to ride them. When we arrived at the dolphin pool, there were also several sea lions in caged pools. Paige immediately decided she wanted to swim with them instead of the dolphins...uh, heck no, girl! I am not fond of oceans or swimming with sea creatures, so a dolphin was hard enough...a sea lion? Forget it!

Trey, Drew and Papa went on an outdoor adventure, which consisted of riding burros up into the mountains and then coming down the mountain via zip line and repelling down waterfalls. Drew also went parasailing the day we were on the beach - awesome, considering his fear of falling.

We spent a lot of time at the pool, laying around doing nothing (reading, playing backgammon). Everyone fell in love with Paige at the pool; she had several older women at the pool that fussed over her and how cute she is; they were instant friends. It was humorous to walk around the resort and have people wave and say, "Hello, Paige!" At one point, there were several grandparents there who were arguing over who's turn it was to pull her around the pool on the float. She really lived up to the name "La Princessa" (as dubbed by the hotel bellman upon arrival). The day we left, she went down to the pool to say goodbye to Miss Shelley and Miss Muffy...and all the others.

I think Paige brought home every seashell that was available on the beach at the resort. She informed me after day 2 that she was hoping "they" would put more seashells out the next day for her. When I asked her who "they" were, she said, "The people who work here, they have to put out more seashells for me to pick up." Oh, silly me! I quickly informed her of how the tide brings in the seashells...she was not impressed since she didn't care how they got there, only that there would be more. We came home with a LARGE bag of shells (mind you, not all are really shells - most are pieces of shells).

We had a great time - ate a lot of wonderful food, shopped a lot, laid by the pool and went to the beach. It was a lot of fun vacationing with Papa and Mimi and getting to make such wonderful memories with them. I am sure they both were tired of all of us by week-end and collapsed into bed when we left, but we hope they had as much fun with us as we did with them.

The best part of all was getting to share such a fun experience with two of my kids and watching them experience new things and seeing this wonderfully rich, cultural place through their eyes. Can't wait to go back!
