Mom's Weekend

I headed off to San Diego the last week of May to help celebrate my best friend, and "sister of the heart", Kristin's "Still Wild at 40" birthday...it was a WILD weekend (that means nothing more than there was a lot of animal print involved, since we are both moms and are tired by 10p). Above is the BEAUTIFUL cake that Rosie brought for the celebration!

The weekend started off with meeting up with some of Kristin's friends (no we did not coordinate our outfits prior to the concert - great minds just think alike), heading out for Mexican food and fishbowl-sized margaritas (that were, by the way, like $24 each...ugh!). Krista, the adorable blond, made us all matching heart leopard bead necklaces (which you'll see in later pictures - she has her own business and those of you that live in ABQ...she'll be at the Rio Grande Arts & Crafts Festival at Balloon Fiesta Time). Then we headed off to the Kenny Chesney concert for a fun night of country music...and then home to bed.

The next day was filled with shopping, lunch and pedicures (ha! what a joke anymore with us) with the nieces (Kendall, age 3 and Alexis, age 1). I was able to get my "baby fill" with diapers, sippy cups, diaper bags...and nap time. While I thoroughly enjoy these times with the babies...it is a lot of work that I have decided I am too old for - but Kristin makes it look so easy and she is older than me (ha ha). I keep telling her to wait until they are teenagers...a whole different story from toddler (still not a lot of sleep), but fun nonetheless.

Later that evening we checked into the Hyatt Mission Bay Regency..thanks Big Al for the room (after more shopping) and relaxed...kicked off our shoes and talked into the wee hours - something we have a hard time doing with all the kids around. The next day it was off to the spa for facials and massages, laying by the pool being waited on by cabana boys...quite the life (except for the fact that neither of us wore sunscreen and fell asleep!).

Later that night, we hosted a fun 40th birthday gathering in our room with lots of friends, Kristin's beautiful sisters (a surprise) and her mom (my own San Diego mom), Connie...all decked out in animal print and beautiful as EVER (I swear those Krc genes...they don't age)! It was a fun time - a lot of laughter, a lot of eating and a lot of good memories...and some people falling asleep at the party (this just goes to show how old we truly are). I am still not understanding the constant reference of "cougar" at her birthday party, since that is not a term uttered by my teenagers (like "snap" or "word")...maybe someone can clue me in! I guess I am a Bruin (as in from Cherry Creek) or a Monarch (as in from Manzano) or, most recently, a Matador...as in Sandia...but not a cougar (thanks, little brother for helping me out on this one). :)

BTW...I think that on this trip I committed to running the "Rock and Roll Marathon" when I am 40...there it is in writing. It was going on while I was there and it looked doable...everyone can hold me to it (Kristin said, "Hell no, I won't do it with you!)...

But, all good things must come to an end...so I was off to the airport - after a visit to Anthony's Fish Grotto - to head home to my own family (and thanks to our wonderful husbands - Trey and Big Al - for holding down the forts and helping pay for the damage). It was a great time, a fun and relaxing visit - can't wait for my next visit!
